On World Press Freedom Day May 3, 2022 over 200 members and partners of the Global Forum for Media Development call for increased support of independent media and journalists in Ukraine.

The Perugia Declaration for Ukraine, which was launched at the International Journalism Festival on April 9, 2022, features calls for action:

  • To international media and journalists
  • To private and public donors and funders of professional journalism
  • To the EU, EU member states, members of the Media Freedom Coalition and all states that care about the right to freedom of expression and access to information
  • To technology, telecoms, internet intermediaries and advertisers

Launch of the Perugia Declaration for Ukraine

The declaration was launched at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia on 9 April 2022.

The Perugia Declaration for Ukraine was launched at 12:00 CET on 9 April 2022 at a panel discussion organised by the Thomson Foundation on “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine: how local journalists are telling the story for their communities and the world” in Sala San Francesco, Arcivescovado, Perugia.

On April 13, the Global Forum for Media Development also joined the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and other Civil Liberties organisations’ call on social media platforms for long term investment in human rights, accountability, and a transparent, equal and consistent application of policies to uphold the rights of users worldwide.
