Grant Nominations are now open for the 2021 Sigma Awards to empower, elevate and enlighten the global community of data journalists. The Sigma Awards is a competition to celebrate the best data journalism from around the world. The international data journalism community is facing many challenges, and they want to support them. This year’s Sigma Awards will be about highlighting the very best data journalism done about the pandemic (and building an international database record of such projects), but also those covering other topics such as politics, sports, or the environment.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR INNOVATIVE MEDIA FOR PEACE, SOCIAL COHESION AND RECONCILIATION IN TURKEY, MIDDLE EST AND NORTH AFRICA

Grant The European Union (EU) has launched a call for applications for the Innovative Media for Peace, Social Cohesion and Reconciliation in Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa. The global objective of this call for applications is to promote peace in the digital space and enhance resilience of conflict-affected and fragile societies to media harmful content in Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, West Bank and Gaza Strip and Yemen.

GRANTS OF UP TO €120,000 NOW AVAILABLE FOR NEWSROOM REPORTING ON GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT

Grant Media organisations can now apply for the last round of the European Development Journalism Grants programme. Eight grants worth €112,500 on average each will be awarded to media outlets in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom to report on global development topics during the course of one year.

UNITED NATIONS DEMOCRACY FUND PROJECT PROPOSAL GUIDELINES 15TH ROUND OF FUNDING

OSCE: CALL FOR PROPOSAL FOR IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

Grant The aim of the #SAIFE project is to develop policy recommendations on the most effective ways to safeguard freedom of expression and media pluralism, when deploying AI. Funded initiatives must support RFoM’s #SAIFE project on the impact of AI on freedom of expression, as well as the overall mandate to safeguard media freedom and freedom of expression across the 57 OSCE participating States.

USAID’S BMAP 3RD MEDIA INNOVATION LAB: REPORTING ETHICALLY DURING A PANDEMIC

Grant The Media Innovation Lab will gather lead experts in the field and provide different perspectives, teach new skills, and inspire participants to tackle new challenges! On the last day, participants will present their projects to a jury for a chance to receive seed funding of up to $5,000 USD to further develop their prototypes and ideas after the event into full-fledged tools and projects that can be rolled out for use by media across the region.

APPLY FOR ASIA NEW ZEALAND FOUNDATION’S MEDIA TRAVEL GRANTS

Grant Asia New Zealand Foundation will consider proposals that seek to increase New Zealanders’ understanding of the Asia region, and proposals that promote themes of economic, political, social or strategic change in Asia – and the implications of these changes for New Zealand.

THE MCGRAW FELLOWSHIP FOR BUSINESS JOURNALISM

Grant The McGraw Fellowship provides editorial and financial support to journalists who need the time and resources to produce a significant investigative or enterprise story that provides fresh insight into an important business, financial or economic topic. They accept applications for in-depth text, video or audio pieces, and they encourage proposals that take advantage of more than one storytelling form to create a multimedia package.

NIEMAN-BERKMAN KLEIN FELLOWSHIP IN JOURNALISM INNOVATION

Grant The Nieman-Berkman Klein Fellowship in Journalism Innovation brings individuals to Harvard University to work on a specific course of research or a specific project relating to journalism innovation. The fellowship is collaboration between the Nieman Foundation for Journalism and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard.

JOURNALISM 360 CHALLENGE

Grant The Journalism 360 Challenge is an open call for ideas using immersive storytelling to discover new ways to engage audiences and advance the field of journalism.
Winners will receive a share of $100,000 for early-stage projects that help expand best practices for technologies including, but not limited to: 360 video, spatial audio, augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality.
