WAN-IFRA have just launched the third season of The Backstory, a podcast series exploring media freedom issues from across the globe. The series looks at challenging issues that journalists and media organisations are faced with, exploring how they tackle – and surmount – the obstacles to continue reporting the news.

On March 13th, 2020, join the GFMD Women in Media Working Group for a panel discussion on the effects of gender-equal reporting on the role of women in society. The event, co-organised by GFMD, CFI, Fondation Hirondelle, Free Press Unlimited, IMS, and Sembramedia, with support from Fojo Media Institute, is taking place as an NGO parallel event at the 64th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (NGO CSW64).
On International Women’s Day 2020, GFMD and over thirty other media organisations from around the world call upon all media leaders and journalists around the globe to take action against the skewed balance and representation of gender in the news – both in terms of numbers and in portrayal.
On March 2, United for News launched Reflect Reality, a digital manual to help newsrooms include more authoritative female and diverse voices in their stories. Led by Internews in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, Reflect Reality incorporates proven strategies and lessons learned to address this disparity.
On February 6, IREX will host a GFMD webinar to present a new Annex to its Basic Training curriculum, provide a showcase of one of the curriculum’s lessons, and discuss inclusion in safety training.
