Welad Elbalad Media LTD is an international award-winning media company dedicated to publishing and developing independent, non-partisan, ethical and proficient media at the local level in Egypt since 2011. The company currently publishes BabMasr, a website dedicated to reporting on hyper-local heritage and culture within a sustainable cities and development perspective.
This work builds on the network of the ten newsrooms the company ran from 2011 thru 2020 from the very north of the country in Marsa Matruh down to the deep south in Luxor which was dedicated to the publication of hyper-local news content for local communities.
Welad ElBalad is also unique in that it has provided over the past 11 years specialized journalism content not only in the area of culture and heritage conservation but also in the key areas of environment, refugee affairs and local sports. Welad ElBalad is the first local media organization in Egypt working practically on the ground to develop a new business model for local media production and engages in activities from print to digital publication as well as local events management and specialized media literacy training.
