The Media Challenge Initiative is building the next generation of journalists, storytellers and leaders in Uganda and East Africa who are equipped to create change in their communities using media. We are a youth-driven, African-led nonprofit and social enterprise, with a growing community of more than 2,000 skilled young journalists and media entrepreneurs who have been molded through our programs.
We run the MCI Media Hub, a media incubation center located in Kampala that is outfitted with TV and radio studios, training facilities, a large events space and coworking center. The Hub houses and supports more than 10 media start-ups. These media innovations are covering under-reported stories and topics neglected by the mainstream media, such as minorities and fact-checking. Most are led by our alumni.
