About the organisation

MADA Center was established in 2006, where a group of Passionate vision driven Palestinians “citizens and journalists” joined forces to promote and defend the right to freedom of expression and opinion.

Description of the organisation

MADA is an independent, non-governmental, and non-profit organization. The center operates throughout the Palestinian Territories based in Ramallah, working daily to develop the Palestinian media and to promote and defend media freedoms and freedom of expression. MADA stands side-by-side Palestinian journalists, monitors all violations on their rights, empowers them to speak up and end their self-censorship, offers them free legal consultation and representation, promotes and defends their right to freedom of expression and opinion and right to access information, and contributes to Palestinian media development to become a key player in developing and promoting democracy in Palestinian society.

Name of Project: Women Journalists First, toward professional journalists and an end to gender stereotyping | Donor: Representative Office of Finland Ramallah | Dates: 01/06/2017-30/05/2018 | Overall objective: to engage Palestinian women journalists in promoting media freedoms (freedom of expression and opinion)

Name of Project: A contribution to promote the adoption of the right to information law in Palestine | Donor: UNESCO | Dates: 1/11/2015 – 31/12/2015 | Overall objective: To promote the adoption of a right to information law in Palestine through engaging Palestinian journalists in a campaign to promote enactment of the A2I law and enhancing citizens’ awareness about right to know.

“MADA” won the Golden award for the Best Digital Media Campaign in the Middle East | The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms “MADA” won the Golden prize in The Middle East Digital Media Awards competition, which was organized by WAN-IFRA, “the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers”, that was declared in its conference in Dubai in 2016.

“MADA” ends international advocacy tour on Israeli crackdown on Palestinian Media Outlets and Broadcasters | The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms “MADA” presented an oral statement before the human rights council in its 37th regular session under agenda item 7 in Geneva. The oral statement focused on the recent Israeli crackdown on Palestinian media outlets & broadcasters.
