The Fundo de Apoio ao Jornalismo (FAJ) strengthens Brazil’s journalism ecosystem by funding local, public interest journalism that promotes citizenship, debate, and participation. Committed to equity, sustainability, and diversity, FAJ expands access to resources, supports long-term institutional growth, and uplifts underrepresented voices across geography, race, gender, and media type. Its strategy includes flexible multi-year grants, tailored capacity building, and sector research. FAJ’s first funding round, launched in 2025, supports up to 15 local media outlets with grants ranging from R$75,000 to R$150,000 per year for three years. It prioritises organisations often excluded from major funding, working to ensure a more equitable distribution of media resources in Brazil.
