Freedom Forum (FF) is an independent, non-government, not-for-profit and non-partisan purely social organization established on September 1, 2005 and registered with the District Administration Office (127/062/063) of Kathmandu, Nepal and the Social Welfare Council (16318), Nepal.
It has a 12-membered Board of Directors and 5 staffs members. Its office is located in Kathmandu, Bagmati Province, Nepal. It has no field office but has representatives/ stringers in regional and district sites to coordinate programs at the local levels. Its mission is to make sincere and collective effort towards resolution of conflict, establishment of sustainable peace, pluralistic and ‘inclusive’ democracy in Nepal where press freedom, freedom of expression, human rights and civil liberty will be respected, protected and promoted.
FF has been established as an acclaimed institution in Nepal working in the sector of freedom of expression, right to information, policy and legislative reform, journalist safety and professionalism, public financial management and open budget, internet freedoms and open data, electoral reform and democracy, governance and accountability etc. It has been working with support from national and international donor organizations. In Nepal, FF works in close collaboration with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), National Information Commission (NIC), Office of Auditor General (OAG) Nepal, Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) Secretariat Nepal, etc. Lately, FF has been working with support from international donors- International Freedom of Exchange (IFEX) Network, UNESCO’s Global Media Defense Fund (GMDF), International Budget Partnership (IBP), etc.
