El Surtidor is an independent news media outlet from Paraguay. El Surtidor specialises in visual journalism, which is the combination of quality reporting with striking illustrations from pop culture, memes, the entertainment industry, and so on. El Surtidor is a newsroom that assembles reporters, designers, and illustrators that work to inform young audiences from Paraguay that traditional media outlets leave out their coverage.
El Surtidor wants to equip these groups with information they can use to mobilize for social change. That is why El Surtidor focuses its coverage on issues that affect their lives: climate crisis, gender inequality, power relations and disinformation. El Surtidor’s answer to this challenge is visual journalism: powerful, striking images that are easy to produce, remix, copy and share on social media.
