Association of Independent Local Media “Local Press”

The Association of Independent Local Media “Local Press” began operating in late 1995. Several local print media outlets came together to form an informal network of publications that, despite strong political regime pressures, reported in the public interest and in accordance with professional standards.
The Business Association of Independent Local Media “Local Press” was formally established on March 22, 2002. It is registered as a business association headquartered in Kragujevac.

Through improvements in media legislation, the “Local Press” Association enhances professional standards and strengthens the internal capacities of local media, ensuring citizens receive high-quality and objective information to promote freedom of speech in local communities.

By successfully addressing the needs of its members through the adoption of new business models and specialized training, the Business Association “Local Press” improves the professional and technical standards of its members, provides financial support to its affiliates, and ensures timely, high-quality, and objective information for citizens in Serbia to encourage freedom of speech at the local level.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION

The “Local Press” Association was founded to improve and harmonize the activities of its members
and to represent the interests of its founders, primarily in the field of newspaper publishing,
through:

•  Representing professional interests before relevant state and other institutions and organizations.
• Joint market engagement for activities within the members’ scope.
•  Unified procurement of raw materials for publishing and printing newspapers and other publications.
•  Coordinated market analysis, marketing, and business communication, Joint media research.
• Staff training and assistance in utilizing work resources, expertise, and labor potential of its members.
•  Closer cooperation to improve communication between journalists and media, as well as performing other activities of interest for the smooth operation of its members.
