The Afghanistan Journalists’ Center (AFJC) is an independent, non-governmental and non-partisan body operating across Afghanistan under the country’s Mass Media Law. The organization was established in June 2009 after getting operation license from the Ministry of Information and Culture under the name of Center to Support Journalists of Afghanistan (CSJA). Its name was modified in September 2011 on request from the Executive Board of the center which was approved by the ministry of Information and Culture by issuing a renewed license.
AFJC works to defend rights of Afghan journalists and ensure freedom of expression in Afghanistan. AFJC aims at:
- To establish an effective network of media and journalists throughout Afghanistan to gather and document information concerning violations against the press;
- To defend and promote freedom of press in Afghanistan and participate at the international advocacy and campaigns;
- To raise the standard of journalism in Afghanistan through the media;
- To undertake studies and projects in support of the development of the Afghan media;
- To organise media training program, seminars and conferences, in rural centers as well as in the cities on issues facing by Afghan media;
- To establish relations with similar foreign and international organizations;
- To participate in the legislative processes in the field of media;
- Honoring brave professional and proactive journalists
