- Eligibility: Journalists in ODA-recipient countries
- Target region: ODA countries (see here)
- Application language: English (reporting can be any language)
The Equality Fund, a global fund investing in people with local solutions to global challenges, is launching its inaugural Equality Fund Journalism Fellowship. Journalists in ODA-recipient countries are invited to apply now through November 8, 2026 at 11pm, Eastern Standard Time.
Requirements
- The Equality Fund welcomes journalism across a range of formats, including written articles, audio, video, and other digital storytelling formats, as long as the project is grounded in fact-based reporting with a clear editorial purpose.
- Podcast episodes or audio projects are eligible if they include original reporting and interviews. Informal conversations are not a fit, but long-form interviews, reported audio features, and documentary-style episodes are eligible.
- Social media storytelling is eligible if the format is used to tell a reported, journalistic story. The Equality Fund is open to digital-first and non-traditional formats, including video and social media storytelling, as long as the work is grounded in reporting and verification.
- Your story should not be finished. It should be in a proposal state. If you have already reported
on this community or issue or theme in the past, that’s great. But the story itself cannot already be produced. You will be in community with the other fellows as you all work through story pitch to reporting to publication phases. - The Equality Fund uses journalism to mean work that involves original reporting, fact-checking, and publication through a recognized outlet or platform involving more than one person. They recognize that some applicants may not describe themselves as journalists, especially freelancers or independent creators, but may still be doing journalistic work.
Eligibility
- Minimum of three years of journalism experience
- Journalists should be located in, and be reporting on, communities in ODA-recipient countries
- Have three strong journalism samples that showcase a range of relevant work
- Ability to accommodate meetings within daytime hours in Eastern Standard Time
- Fluent in English, Equality Fund’s working language
- Have a strong affinity for Equality Fund’s mission, and align with their values – equality and diversity of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin, and disability
- Women, non-binary, and trans people are encouraged to apply
- Have an account with a bank that is able to accept international Electronic Wire Transfers
