Entries are now open for the 2023 Sigma Awards for Data Journalism. Striding into its fourth year, the Sigma Awards celebrates data journalism from around the world.

Sigma Awards expects to receive a number of entries tackling the COVID-19 pandemic or the Russia-Ukraine war. However, all data journalism projects, regardless of their topics, can be entered into the competition. There are no categories this year so the jury members can decide on the best work overall and come to a consensus on who should win.

The organisation would like to see the following entries:

  • Data collection and analysis in the service of journalism, ideally shining a light on facts and issues of public interest that would otherwise not be known;
  • Storytelling and engagement with strong visual and interactive elements of (ideally) that kind of reporting;
  • Public service, either in reporting/analysis of key issues or in terms of empowering communities to discover important information for themselves;
  • Innovative ideas that will likely move the field forward.

Winning participants will be flown to Perugia, Italy to attend and take part in the International Journalism Festival 2023.
