NASW Peggy Girshman Idea Grants 2025

• Eligibility Criteria: The NASW Peggy Girshman Idea Grants are open to individuals or groups, including journalists, editors, public information officers (PIOs), freelancers, producers, managers, and other media professionals. Membership in the National Association of Science Writers (NASW) is not required. However, applicants should demonstrate an understanding of NASW’s mission, which focuses on benefiting the field of science writing and supporting U.S.-based science writers.Projects should align with NASW’s mission and are expected to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.

• Target Region: Primarily the United States (projects must benefit U.S.-based science writers).

• Novel projects, events, or resources that enhance the professional lives of science writers.

  To encourage projects that address diversity, equity, and inclusion within the science writing community.
• To fund initiatives that have long-term impacts on the field of science writing.

Additional Information

• Project Duration: Flexible based on the proposed project timeline.
• Application Process: Submit proposals through Submittable by 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, April 4, 2025.
• Funding Guidelines:Grants will not cover indirect costs or expenses already incurred.
• Only direct costs for the proposed project are allowable.
• Timeline: Applicants will be notified of decisions in Spring 2025.
• Expectations: Funded projects soliciting multiple voices (e.g., panels, events, or compilations) must ensure diversity in perspectives and backgrounds.

Financial Support: Up to $5,000 per project.
