- Eligibility Criteria:Open to newsrooms and media organizations based in coastal countries with a marine border. Applications from Ghana, Mexico, and the Philippines will be prioritized. Eligible applicants include newspapers, online media, radio, television, multimedia platforms, journalist networks, collectives, journalism support organizations, and other entities that produce and distribute news and information.
Ineligible applicants: Civil society organizations, academic institutions, NGOs, and advocacy or political campaigning groups.
Applications are accepted in English and Spanish only. Applicants must demonstrate working proficiency in one of these languages or have access to a translator. Former EJN grantees are eligible to apply, but organizations with an existing EJN grant are not.
Applicants must disclose the use of generative AI tools in proposal preparation; unethical or improper use may result in disqualification. - Type of Funding: Grant

Objectives
- Strengthen media coverage and journalist capacity related to 30×30 marine conservation targets.
- Support in-depth and enterprise reporting projects on marine biodiversity and protection.
- Promote training and knowledge exchange among journalists to enhance reporting on ocean and conservation issues.
- Increase public understanding of marine conservation challenges and solutions.
- Encourage accountability and transparency in countries’ progress toward the Global Biodiversity Framework’s 30×30 goal.
Project Themes
- National commitments and activities to achieve the 30×30 target.
- Marine Protected Areas (MPAs): effectiveness, regulations, enforcement, and challenges such as IUU fishing.
- Impact of industrial fishing, shipping, oil and gas exploration, and marine pollution on conservation efforts.
- Involvement of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) in protected area management.
- Use of technology (satellites, remote sensing, eDNA, AI) in MPA monitoring and enforcement.
- Policy negotiations, financial mechanisms, and conservation efforts in the high seas.
Financial Support: Up to USD 10,000 per grant.
