Organisation: Internationale Journalisten-Programme e.V.
Status: Open
Funding Size: €4200
Deadline: 15/06/2026
The German-Asian Programme was founded in 1995 at the suggestion of the Federal Foreign Office on the occasion of the “Asia-Europe Summit” in Bangkok. For many years, journalists from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the countries of Southeast Asia were supported.
It begins with a four-day introductory event for ALL Fellows in Berlin. Following this, the German Fellows begin their eight-week research stay in Japan. The Japanese Fellows are simultaneously completing their stays in a German editorial office. After completing the fellowship, the fellows submit a report of at least five pages of experience and their published contributions.
German applicants send IJP Martina Johns (johns@ijp.org) a detailed CV in German or English, a passport photo, a short letter of motivation including a detailed elaboration of the journalistic plans in the host country, and a journalistic report issued by the department head or editor-in-chief. The report is intended to support the application as proof of journalistic activity and, at the same time, ensure leave of absence for the scholarship. Further details on the application process, especially for freelance journalists, can be found in the current tender to be found.
