The Fund for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) offers funding and other assistance to journalists to produce high-quality, objective, and nonpartisan investigative reports.

FIJ’s Board of Directors are looking for groundbreaking stories that expose wrongdoing such as corruption, malfeasance, or abuse of power in the public and corporate sectors.

FIJ has four types of grants:

  • Regular grants: FIJ reviews proposals three to four times a year.
  • Expedited grants: Expedited review for proposals that are extremely urgent.
  • Follow-up grants: Grantees can apply for expedited review for follow-up grants of original investigations that were produced with grants from the FIJ grants.
  • Emergency Grants: These grants are for groundbreaking stories that expose wrongdoing related to U.S. democracy threats.

Foreign-based stories must be submitted by American reporters or have a compelling U.S. angle involving American citizens, government, or business. The Fund encourages proposals written for ethnic media and submitted by journalists of color.
