– Be a news organisation reporting on Burmese affairs (either general or local) operating in exile and in capacity of receiving financial support.;
– Publish news in the Burmese language (bilingual or trilingual news organisations are also welcome);

Canal France International (CFI) is launching a call for applications to support Burmese media organisations in exile through its Naye thit initiative. This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of independent media to deliver balanced and professional reporting.
Objectives
The primary goal of this project is to safeguard press freedom and strengthen the resilience of Burma’s media sector. Specific objectives include:
- Restructuring media organisations to ensure long-term sustainability and continued delivery of reliable information.
- Protecting journalists and media outlets at risk by mitigating sources of vulnerability and enhancing resilience strategies.
- Establishing a professional network to facilitate the sharing of reliable, ethical journalism and collaboration among media organisations.
Selection Procedure
- Viability of Structuring Support: The organisation’s potential to benefit from and effectively implement structural support.
- Motivation for Media and/or Editorial Management: Demonstrated commitment to improving media and editorial management practices.
- Willingness and Capacity to Develop Sustainable Strategies: Ability and readiness to invest time in developing strategies for sustainable operations.
- Number of Staff in Myanmar: The size and capacity of the team working within Myanmar (if applicable)
- Ability to Provide Regular Financial Reports: Capacity to submit timely and accurate financial reports.
- Disclosure of Funding: Willingness to disclose the amount of funding received from other sources.
- Quality of Reporting: Demonstrated quality of journalism, including clarity, depth, and accuracy.
- Use of verified Sources: Reliance on reliable and appropriate sources of information.
- Balanced Media Content: Adherence to journalistic ethics, ensuring impartial and balanced coverage.
- Gender Awareness: Awareness and integration of gender issues both within the editorial team and in the content produced.
