The Advancing Democracy Innovation Fund supports newsrooms seeking to experiment with innovative approaches to covering democracy, civic life, and public participation. The fund is designed to help news organisations test new editorial practices, formats, or engagement strategies that strengthen trust, elevate community voices, and highlight responses to democratic challenges.

Grants are intended to support practical experimentation, learning, and iteration, particularly where newsrooms are working to rethink how democracy is covered and experienced by audiences.

• Editorial experiments related to democracy and civic life
• Audience engagement and community-centred journalism initiatives
• Testing new storytelling formats or newsroom practices
• Learning and collaboration with peer organisations

Financial Support: Up to USD 4,000 per newsroom
