WORLD PRESS FREEDOM CONFERENCE 2020
18 October 2020 - 20 October 2020
The Kingdom of the Netherlands and UNESCO will host the World Press Freedom Conference this year. The event will take place online due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions on December 09-10, 2020.
WPFC 2020 has chosen Journalism without fear or favour as its title. In many countries the independence and freedom of media is under attack. Journalists must be able to do their work without fear of or favour from any particular person, opinion, ideology, or other actors. WPFC 2020 wants to contribute to this goal by agenda-setting, by inspiring and learning, and by mobilising people into action. The Kingdom of the Netherlands and UNESCO call upon everyone to join this effort for positive change – including governments, journalists and media, the judiciary and legal sector, Internet businesses, civil society, academia, and the youth.
This year’s conference aims to digitally bring together the professional community of journalists, media companies, human rights defenders, members of the judiciary (including judges, lawyers and prosecutors) policymakers and NGOs, and to connect them to a large global audience that can actively participate online. WPFC 2020 will be a highly interactive and participatory conference, merging digital and in-person elements. With livestreamed interactive sessions, keynote speeches and performances, people all over the world will be able to participate at times most convenient for them. Sessions will be broadcast from the World Forum in The Hague and multiple other locations around the world.
