12/11/2018 @ 14:00 - 18:00

Join the media development stakeholders attending the 2018 Internet Governance Forum (IGF) for an afternoon symposium to discuss strategies for our sector to increase engagement and overall impact in global internet governance processes. The focus will be on how the voice of the under-represented news media sector can amplified in these spaces, as well as how we can draw attention to concerns facing the news media in developing countries.

This meeting is being convened by GFMD, the Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA), International Media Support (IMS), and ARTICLE 19. UNESCO has graciously offered to host the event.

The objectives of this symposium include:

  • Launch of the Issue Paper on Media Development and Internet Governance, which was the outcome of a similar gathering at IGF 2017, and which presents a the three main topics of concern in internet governance where media development stakeholders need to be engaged.
  • Strategize cross-organization collaboration on internet governance by identifying current work being undertaken as well as to pinpoint strategic gaps where further efforts are needed.
  • Highlight new, and emerging trends in internet governance that will impact news media ecosystems.

Light refreshments will be provided.
