Workshop on the discoverability of cultural works

Status: Closed

Organisation: International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF)

Deadline: 04/10/2024

Location: Lomé, Togo

The International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) is inviting applications from French-speaking cultural journalists from West and Central Africa to participate in a workshop devoted to the discoverability of cultural works.

Workshop objectives

This workshop is part of the OIF’s ongoing commitment to training African journalists. In the past, the OIF has organised several training workshops for cultural journalists, notably in Dakar (2017), Libreville (2017), Antananarivo (2017), and Saint-Louis (2019), thus strengthening the skills of journalists in cultural criticism and the promotion of creative industries.

With this workshop on the discoverability of cultural works, the OIF aims to support the dissemination and discoverability of cultural goods and services from French-speaking countries of the South, both nationally and internationally, by facilitating access to physical and digital platforms.

Specifically, this will involve:

  • Revisiting the fundamentals of journalism
  • Strengthening the capacities of cultural journalists in understanding and analyzing the different fields of cultural and creative industries
  • Familiarise cultural journalists with the concept of discoverability and the challenges of disseminating cultural content from the South on digital platforms
  • Facilitate the establishment of contacts and the sharing of experiences between cultural journalists from West Africa and those from Central Africa
Target audience

The workshop is aimed at 30 young cultural journalists (article writers, commentators, presenters, presenters of spoken and television news, online news sites, blogs, vlogs, etc.), aged 18 to 35, from West and Central African countries, members of the Francophonie, selected through a call for applications.
