Workshop and Mentoring on Energy Transition in the Caribbean

Applications are now open for Caribbean Energy Transition Workshop, an innovative and practical experience for 40 journalists from Belize, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

Workshop benefits

• Certification Workshop: Participate in a workshop that will provide you with in-depth knowledge about the energy transition.
• Advanced training: If you are one of the 9 selected interns, you will acquire advanced journalistic techniques and learn to use the appropriate context and framing to cover the energy transition, through their 6 group training sessions.
• Capacity Building: Improve your skills with targeted capacity building sessions.
• Mentoring and publishing: Benefit from mentoring from experienced journalists and publish your work on their platform. They will support you every step of the way.

Deliverables

• You will be assigned a mentor who will help you produce and publish three stories on the energy transition in the media you collaborate with. These stories will also be published on their website.
• You will receive support to create a short audiovisual piece focused on the energy transition in your country, aimed at audiences on social media.
• You will be invited to participate in at least one episode of their Caribbean Climate Calabash podcast.
• You will have the opportunity to lead an Instagram Live session through the Climate Tracker Caribbean profile.
• You are expected to attend each group training session and maintain open and honest communication with your mentor and their team throughout the process.

Eligibility

• A Caribbean journalist interested in covering climate change and related issues.
• A Caribbean journalist with experience in environmental issues, seeking guidance and training to cover the energy transition.
• A Caribbean journalism or media student with some publications, interested in acquiring knowledge and certification in covering the energy transition.
• Able to commit to attending the 2-hour workshop.
• Able to commit to meeting regularly with your assigned mentor.
• Able to commit to 6 group training sessions (3 hours each, held every two weeks for 3 months, plus an additional week for orientation).
• Resident in Belize, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname or Trinidad and Tobago.
• With some experience in creating video content for social media.

Each fellow will receive a stipend of USD $900 for the production of 3 stories and a video.
