Turn the Mic Around: Holding the Powerful Accountable with Investigative Journalism

Status: Closed

Organisation: Untitled

Deadline: 15/12/2021

Location: Online

When economic and political elites go corrupt, they have access to systems of financial secrecy that surpass those of your favourite James Bond villain. Offshore networks of secret bank accounts are controlled by unscrupulous fund managers that stash assets in covert shell companies and trusts while their governments do little to slow a global stream of illicit money that enriches criminals and impoverishes nations.

This month Internews Europe gets to sit with Panama Papers investigative journalist Anna Babinets, Regional Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project Editor, whose 2014 film documenting the investigation into thousands of documents uncovered in the wake of ex-President Yanukovych’s flight from Ukraine won an award from the Global Investigative Journalism Network.

The event will take place on December 15, 2021 12:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)
