Join this expert discussion, hosted by Pact and the Center for International Private Enterprise, on trends related to private sector engagement on civic causes on June 18, 2024.
Against the backdrop of expanding authoritarianism globally, civil society and independent media are actively engaged in preserving and revitalizing civic space, fostering social trust, and countering adverse effects to our information ecosystems and social networks.
Where there are shared interests, private sector actors can serve as powerful allies to advance initiatives led by civil society and independent media organisations that support common goals related to democracy and civic space. At the same time, deeper engagement with the private sector can be challenged by the fact that companies may face constraints in promoting civic and media freedoms.
The conversation will explore topics such as the threat of democratic backsliding on economic markets, areas of shared interested between private sector and civic actors, and opportunities and challenges for building cross-sector partnerships.
The event will also include the launch of a new strategy from CSM-STAND titled, “Private Sector Engagement for Civic and Media Space: A Strategy for Civil Society and Independent Media to Collaborate with the Private Sector,” which lays out how development partners, civil society organisations, and independent media can take practical steps to develop partnerships with the private sector on civic issues.
