Media Meltdown: Community Media Survey

Code for Africa, in partnership with media support organizations, is conducting a critical survey on the economic landscape of community and grassroots media in Africa. In light of the January 2025 aid freeze, this research aims to identify key pressure points and assess how community media has adapted to increasing financial challenges.

Objectives
  • Map community and grassroots media organizations and their economic realities.
  • Understand how media outlets have adapted to financial constraints.
  • Identify potential solutions and support mechanisms for sustainable community media.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Community and grassroots media organizations operating in Africa.
  • Media practitioners impacted by financial constraints following the aid freeze.
How to Participate
  • Community/Grassroots Media Organizations: Share your insights by completing the survey (15-18 minutes). Ensure you have basic operational data from 2020-2024 on hand.
  • Individuals Affected by the Aid Freeze: If you are not part of a community media organization but have been impacted, please fill out this separate form.
  • Research Partners: Organizations interested in joining as research partners can apply via the dedicated form.
