The European Commission has launched a call for proposals to organize a European Festival of Journalism and Media Freedom. This initiative aims to reinforce dialogue, cooperation, and partnership among journalists, media outlets, civil society organizations, and media professionals across the European Union.
Shaping Europe’s digital future
The selected consortium will be responsible for delivering three annual editions of the festival over a two-year project period. Each edition should gather media professionals from diverse backgrounds, including large media corporations, freelancers, independent investigative journalists, local media outlets, and representatives of press associations and media freedom NGOs. National and European authorities’ representatives are also to be invited as guest speakers or observers.
Objectives
- Facilitate exchanges between media professionals from across Europe.
- Raise awareness of the valuable yet challenging work of journalists and highlight press freedom violations within the EU.
- Support discussions on legislation related to media freedom, disinformation, safety of journalists, and economic challenges in the sector.
- Provide a platform to exchange views on the effects of the European Media Freedom Act. Shaping Europe’s digital future
Eligibility Criteria
Proposals are invited from consortia composed of at least three entities from a minimum of three different eligible countries. Eligible applicants include:
- Professional organizations and associations (private or public)
- Editors
- Publishers
- International organizations
- Universities
- Educational institutions
- Research centers
