Would you like to participate as a speaker at the first-ever global summit on mental health in journalism? If your answer is yes, The Self-Investigation invites you to be part of their online program next October 8-10, 2024.
The Mental Health in Journalism Summit will be an inspiring arena to reflect on the profession, share good practices for mental health, and nurture a global movement that prioritizes a healthy work culture in the media sector.
The Summit is designed for managers, editors, reporters, freelancers, and anyone working in the media industry, as well as those in academic institutions, journalism unions, and associations.
At the Mental Health in Journalism Summit, they’re bringing together media, well-being, and mental health experts from around the world for a collaborative exploration of this vital issue. If you believe your experience and expertise can contribute to this conversation, they invite you to submit your proposal.
Program Topics
The Summit program will include relevant topics, such as:
- Overcoming taboos and stigma around mental health in journalism.
- Policies and practices for burnout prevention and stress management.
- Mental health in the context of wars, totalitarian governments, violence and a rise in abusive lawsuits against journalists.
- The issue of online harassment and vicarious trauma.
- Making mental health resources accessible to all media staff and freelancers.
- Strategies and tools for leaders to protect their own mental health and cultivate a culture of psychological safety for their team.
- Mitigating digital fatigue and hyper-connectivity.
What kind of proposals are they looking for?
You can offer your expertise to the MHIJS in two ways:
- Session Proposals: Did your newsroom apply a new protocol to prevent burnout? Have you started a peer-support group with colleagues? Are you a newsroom leader who has reflected and taken action to prioritize mental health in your team? They want to hear from you! Propose a case study, a panel discussion, a lightning talk or a practical workshop.
- Well-being Activities: You’re welcome to submit a 1:1 or a group activity proposal if you’re a coach or yoga instructor, or you lead music, art, dance or other well-being courses. Please note that these activities should have a duration of 50 minutes and, if selected, they’ll be pro-bono.
