The International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) invites the submission of abstracts for its 2026 annual conference. IAMCR conferences bring together scholars and practitioners across diverse areas of media and communication research. While each thematic Section and Working Group (S/WG) defines its own topics and Calls for Proposals, the conference also features a central theme that encourages cross-disciplinary reflection, dialogue, and collaboration.
Thematics
- How marginality and global interconnection shape media and communication systems.
- How media challenge or reinforce conceptual and geographic boundaries during rapid global transformation.
- How media contribute to addressing global challenges, including climate change, migration, representation, and digital inequalities.
- How marginalised spaces function as hubs of creativity, resistance, and innovation—especially from decolonial, feminist, and Global South perspectives.
- How groups at the margins may both resist and seek alignment with established centres of power.
- How shifting global dynamics can periodically transform what is considered “peripheral” or “central” in global media landscapes.
Guidelines for Abstracts
- Abstracts must be submitted exclusively through IAMCR’s submission system between 28 November 2025 and 3 February 2026 at 23:59 UTC.
- Submissions do not need to address the central theme. Each Section and Working Group has its own thematic focus.
- Abstracts should be 800–1000 words, unless otherwise specified by the relevant Section or Working Group.
- Authors may submit only one abstract, and their name may appear on no more than two abstracts as author or co-author.
- The same abstract (or minimally altered versions) cannot be submitted to multiple Sections or Working Groups.
- Abstracts violating submission guidelines may be rejected or removed from the programme.
- Consult the specific CfP of the relevant Section or Working Group for technical requirements.
Deadline for abstract submissions: 3 February 2026
