Call for Contributions: Newsfluencers and Public Interest Media

Status: Open

Organisation: Forum on Information & Democracy

Deadline: 31/08/2026

Location: Online

The Forum on Information and Democracy (FID) is preparing an insight report examining the relationship between news content creators (or so called “newsfluencers”) and public interest journalism and welcomes contributions from experts.

The report will look at how the creator economy is reshaping the information ecosystem: the competitive and financial pressures it places on traditional media, the spectrum of actors – from independent journalists to entertainment-driven influencers, the strategies newsrooms are adopting to compete or collaborate with creators, and the policy frameworks that could help news content creators become allies of information integrity.

Details

FID welcomes contributions from researchers, journalists, media organizations, platforms, policymakers, and content creators themselves, including:

  • Reports, studies, or data on the creator economy’s impact on news media business models and audience behavior
  • Analysis or case studies on news content creators’ editorial practices, self-regulation, or professional norms
  • Examples of media-creator partnerships, transformation strategies, or creator studios
  • Existing or proposed legislation that may directly or indirectly shape the creator-public interest journalism relationship
  • Papers or proposals on recognition, labelling, remuneration, or copyright frameworks relevant to news content creators
  • Any other relevant articles, papers, or documents that could inform the report
