Call for Contributions: Digital Taxes to Fund Public Interest Media

The Forum on Information and Democracy is looking for experienced contributors to share insights and proposals on digital taxes as a means to fund public interest journalism. These contributions will inform a global policy brief aimed at strengthening media sustainability and shaping international policy agendas.

Project Themes

• Digital service taxes and their application to tech platforms
• Digital advertising taxes earmarked for public interest uses
• Digital VATs and their expansion to online services
• National and regional legislative approaches to digital taxation
• Innovative fiscal models for funding journalism
• Public media taxes and platform contributions
• Global case studies of tax initiatives supporting journalism
• Legal, economic, and political implications of digital taxation

Eligibility Criteria

• Researchers, journalists, media policy experts, or legal scholars
• Experienced in media economics, public policy, or digital governance
• Familiar with fiscal frameworks and/or journalism funding models
• Able to present clear, concise, and well-sourced analysis
• Fluent in English, French, German, or Spanish
• Willing to share their work for a Creative Commons publication
• Open to peer review and collaborative feedback
