Call for Abstracts

The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) is inviting researchers and practitioners to submit abstracts for short papers and panel presentations at the 2025 Global Investigative Journalism Conference. The event will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Conference Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 20–24, 2025.

Topics Considered

• Trends in investigative reporting.
• Trends in computer-assisted reporting and data journalism.
• Challenges in doing investigative reporting depending on country or culture.
• Successful methods of teaching investigative, computer-assisted, and data journalism.
• Successful methods for collaborations in investigative reporting.
• Applying the methods of other disciplines to investigative and/or data journalism.
• Successful business models for investigative and data journalism.
• Adapting investigative journalism to new technologies, such as AI, natural language processing, and machine learning.

Submission Requirements

• Proposals should present original research on any of the aforementioned topics in an abstract of no more than 300 words.
• Papers must follow APA style.
• If the abstract is accepted, the paper length should not exceed 15 pages (excluding references, tables, and appendices).
• Papers should not have been published or presented at a prior conference.

Eligibility Criteria

• Open to all researchers, practitioners, and experts in the field of investigative journalism.
• Proposals must be in English.
• Papers must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.

Submission Instructions

• The abstract should include a clear research question, methodology, and expected outcomes.
• If your abstract is accepted, you will be required to submit the full paper in APA style, not exceeding 15 pages.
• Papers should be submitted with the title, but without the author’s identifying information.

Selection Notification: May 15, 2025
Final Paper Submission Deadline: July 15, 2025
