UN-Water is seeking to hire a Communications Manager who will support all corporate media and communications activities of UN-Water with the objective to improve the capacity of the UN system to communicate with one voice on all water- and sanitation-related matters.

The UN-Water Communications Manager reports to the UN-Water Chief Technical Adviser and is a member of the UN-Water Technical Advisory Unit (TAU) in the UN-Water Management Team.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the UN-Water Communications Manager will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Ensure effective corporate communications
  • Strengthen UN-Water branding and coordinate publications
  • Coordinate relevant engagement campaigns and international observances
  • Build knowledge through digital activities
  • Perform other related duties as required, including a variety of tasks necessary for the final delivery of UN-Water services.
Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree preferably in communications, international relations, public relations or another relevant field is required.
  • A combination of a Bachelor’s degree with an additional two (2) years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the education requirements outlined above.
  • Full working knowledge of English is essential. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
Required experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications, or related fields, in an international setting.
  • Within these seven (7) years, a minimum of three (3) years managerial experience.
  • Proven experience of minimum three (3) years in coordinating communications in multi-stakeholder settings.
Desirable experience
  • Experience in working in the water sector at large.
  • Understanding of international development issues, key players and processes.
  • Knowledge of complex multilateral systems, the innovation ecosystem and understanding of digital transformation.
