The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Center for Business Journalism is inviting applications for the Spring 2025 McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism. This program offers experienced journalists grants of up to $15,000, along with editorial support, to produce deeply reported enterprise and investigative stories with a strong economic, financial, or business angle.
The Fellowship supports journalists in producing high-impact stories that “follow the money” and provide fresh insights into important economic, financial, or business-related topics. While applicants do not need to be business reporters, the proposed project should have a strong economic or financial dimension. Proposals focusing on under-covered communities or the local/regional impacts of national or international issues are encouraged.
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum of 5 years of professional journalism experience.
- Open to both freelance and staff journalists working at news organizations or journalism non-profits.
- Proven ability to report and execute complex projects in the proposed medium.
Financial Support
- Grants of up to $15,000, with the exact amount based on time and expenses required.
- Freelancers may allocate part of the funding for living expenses during the Fellowship.
- Editorial supervision and support from the McGraw Center, including assistance with placing stories in established outlets.
Additional Information
- No budget is required at the initial stage. Finalists will provide an estimated budget.
- No references required at the time of application; finalists will be asked for two references.
- Time-sensitive projects may be considered outside the standard application cycle.
