The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a Strategic Communications Officer (P-4) to join Unitaid, a partnership hosted by WHO, in Geneva, Switzerland. The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of strategic communications efforts that enhance Unitaid’s visibility, strengthen its partnerships, and promote equitable access to innovative health solutions in low- and middle-income countries.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Communications Team Lead in implementing Unitaid’s communications strategy in alignment with organizational priorities.
- Provide strategic leadership on communications aspects of risk management and crisis response.
- Oversee Unitaid’s content strategy across all channels, including web, social media, media outreach, and publications.
- Develop and manage communication tools and campaigns to meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
- Produce and oversee public information materials such as reports, press releases, speeches, and visual content.
- Work with technical teams to translate complex health and policy topics into accessible materials.
- Coordinate messaging across the external relations team and executive office to ensure consistency.
- Promote Unitaid’s participation in high-profile events and lead major communication projects and campaigns.
- Provide strategic advice to senior management on media relations, donor engagement, and public communications.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in communications, international relations, development, broadcasting, or a related field.
- Additional training in public health, journalism, or health education is an asset.
- Minimum seven years of relevant experience in communications, media, or public relations, including five years at the international level.
- Experience developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies.
- Background in public health or health-related organizations preferred.
- Familiarity with Unitaid’s priority areas (HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, women’s and children’s health, or global health emergencies) is desirable.
- Proven expertise in strategic communications, content development, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong networks in the global health sector and understanding of global health architecture.
- Excellent writing, editing, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple communications platforms, including digital media, marketing, and events.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Expert knowledge of English required.
- ntermediate knowledge of French is an advantage.
