The Specialist Editor focuses on writing, editing, and publishing content aligned with CPJ’s mission and regional priorities in Asia-Pacific. Embedded in the regional program, the editor collaborates closely with the Regional Director and Research & Analysis teams to shape editorial strategy and deliver timely, accurate regional content across CPJ’s platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission, write, edit, and publish daily editorial content including news alerts, reports, statements, and social media posts tailored to Asia-Pacific regional needs.
- Manage and publish real-time regional social media content, ensuring accuracy and engagement.
- Collaborate with regional researchers and analysts to ensure content accuracy and impact.
- Use CPJ’s internal knowledge management system (Carta) for research and editing.
- Edit and maintain CPJ’s internal databases on journalists affected by violence or imprisonment.
- Identify thematic editorial issues and integrate them into research and communications strategies.
- Edit for content, structure, grammar, and adherence to CPJ editorial standards.
- Manage multiple editorial projects under tight deadlines and mentor regional staff on editorial practices.
- Support CPJ’s editorial and communications strategy in close partnership with the Regional Director and Research & Analysis team.
- Perform other duties as required by the department or organization.
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an editor at a news agency, website, newspaper, or broadcast outlet.
- Strong editorial judgment to identify sensitive or potentially libelous issues.
- Experience with web publishing and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
- Proficiency in Google Workspace tools.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to CPJ’s mission.
