Internews is seeking to hire a Senior Program Associate to provide administrative, programmatic, and technical support to the Senior Vice President, Impact & Learning team, and strategic advisors, and works across the department to support various initiatives and activities.

The Senior Program Associate is expected to perform complex tasks requiring prior experience, education, or training.

he Senior Program Associate supports the SVP of Strategy, Impact & Learning, with an eye towards internal communications and learning in all components of the role to help Internews create an environment of shared understanding, helping staff to feel informed and connected to the work of Internews and its mission.

Key responsibilities

  • Support ongoing engagement of staff in the implementation of Internews’ new three-year organisational strategy, including providing updates, creating presentations, etc.
  • Together with the SVP, support the defining and gathering of key metrics for measuring and reporting on progress integrating the strategic framework at the organisational level.
  • Provide support to the SVP in the development of an internal communications strategy, including gathering input and feedback, managing the structure and processes, drafting communications materials, organizing meetings, and following up on feedback and other tasks as needed.
  • Support the Impact and Learning teams in after-action reviews, research, writing, event planning (such as the Global Internews Gathering (GIG), panels, and webinars) and other needs.
  • Collaborate with People & Culture colleagues and the Knowledge & Learning team to assist in the ongoing development and implementation of onboarding process and materials.
  • Collaborate with External Affairs on tracking and elevating thought leadership activities, opportunities, and materials across the organisation.
  • Meet regularly with team leads to proactively identify projects, coordinate needs, and prioritize competing workloads.
  • Join departmental meetings; take and share notes as requested.
  • Draft communications materials for teams as needed, such as social media content, two-pagers, presentation decks, positioning papers, etc.
  • Compile and write monthly updates about the department for sharing internally with Internews staff.
  • Build, champion, and maintain department-related webpages on their internal knowledge-sharing platform, the Hive.
Required qualifications
  • Three years of prior relevant experience, preferably in international development or the non-profit sector.
  • Relevant University degree or equivalent work/lived experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to balance and effectively prioritize multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Show sensitivity and understanding of diverse perspectives in a multicultural environment.
  • Proactive willingness to communicate any challenges you’re facing to your supervisor and ask for help.
  • Professional-level fluency in English.
  • Optimism, a sense of humour, and excitement at supporting and elevating voices of people across the globe.
Preferred qualifications

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience in organisational internal communications.
  • Familiarity with the media development sector, and global information landscape/challenges.
  • Familiarity with, and interest in, relevant thematic areas, such as media, social media, disinformation, gender, etc.
  • Familiarity with Office 365 tools, including Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
