The BBC is seeking a Senior Journalist, Vertical Video to drive compelling mobile-first storytelling through innovative short-form video. Based in Salford or Cardiff, this role is central to shaping the BBC’s vertical video strategy across its website, app, and social platforms, helping reach new audiences with engaging, digitally native formats.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the commissioning, production, and editing of vertical video content for BBC News’ playlist, site, and social platforms.
  • Oversee colleagues working across platforms to ensure high-quality clips and breaking news carousels reach audiences.
  • Collaborate daily with teams across News, Sport, Sounds, iPlayer, and more.
  • Guide correspondents and reporters in delivering scripts and videos tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Mentor junior colleagues, share best practices, and facilitate innovation in digital storytelling.
  • Experiment with creative approaches to commissioning and storytelling to engage new audiences.
  • Ensure professional standards and content delivery within tight deadlines.
  • Work flexible shifts, including weekends.
Required Qualifications
  • Substantial broadcast journalism experience with strong editorial judgment and proven production skills.
  • Proficiency in Final Cut Pro and/or Adobe Premiere.
  • Demonstrated creativity in video storytelling and commissioning for digital-first audiences.
  • Strong writing ability and understanding of engaging different audience segments.
  • Experience using analytics and audience insights to inform editorial choices.
  • Ability to manage workload, allocate tasks, and ensure quality output from teams.
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work across multiple teams.
