PROJECT BACKGROUND

Internews will disrupt and mitigate the flow of misleading, inaccurate or malign information for vulnerable populations affected by humanitarian crises during COVID-19, when the accuracy and timeliness of public health information and the quality of communication between communities and agencies that serve them is vital to health outcomes.

Internews’ methodologies are part of the wider humanitarian Community Engagement and Accountability efforts and contribute to Risk Communication & Community Engagement (RCCE) efforts from health and humanitarian partners, by ensuring that community perspectives are captured to inform RCCE strategies and that concerns, rumors and questions are addressed with reliable information that comes from, and is created by, local media or other reliable information providers on a variety of both traditional and social media platforms. This approach galvanizes and supports local media, particularly those trusted and used by vulnerable communities experiencing humanitarian crises, to fully play their role as information providers, as facilitators of conversations within their communities, and as watchdogs and agents of acountability for responders and service providers. Internews will ensure that the work of humanitarian and health organizations is shaped by and responsive to the expressed needs of vulnerable communities and local contexts as the pandemic unfolds.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Program Manager (PM) plays a key role in managing the implementation of this complex humanitarian focused project in three countries. The Program Manager will oversee daily program operations and coordination of programming in CAR, Mali and Sudan. This position will collaborate with the Program Director in the ongoing implementation of projects.

SCOPE OF WORK

• Providing general oversight of the program. This includes overall responsibility for the program management, strategic vision, quality and timing of deliverables, and coordination with partners
• Providing leadership and overall management of other project staff, including the editorial team, the Humanitarian Liaison Officers (HLOs), the Humanitarian Data Manager, all field and supporting staff;
• Ensuring that all project deliverables are completed according to agreed timelines and budgets, including regular updates on social media and in the relevant field locations, regular liaison with humanitarians;
• Working with the global team to ensure robust monitoring and evaluation, data responsibility and information management practices;
• Ensuring timely reporting of activities to HQ and effective collaboration with relevant Internews colleagues;
• Contribution to the production of regular multimedia materials (i.e., blog posts, photos, podcast…) documenting the life of the project for external audiences, as required;
• Any other duities as required;
• Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Extensive project management and experience in a multi-country response with the ability to deliver results to agreed timetables and budgets;
• Fluency in written and spoken English;
• Fluency in written and spoken French a distinct advantage;
• Awareness of and familiarity with the issues and dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic and/or other health crises in humanitarian contexts a strong asset;
• Track record in implementing community media projects and/or humanitarian information projects with a focus on participation and community engagement;
• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills to liaise authoritatively with figures from the humanitarian community, local government, civil society, media, etc.;
• Team-building skills and the ability to manage diverse teams remotely;
• An understanding of the vision/mission, core values and objectives of Internews;
• Excellent communication and reporting skills, both written and oral;
• Psychological resilience and a sense of humor.
