Applications are now open for the Journalist Fellowship Programme by the Reuters Institute where mid-career journalists further their understanding of journalism through seminars, networking events, and discussions at Oxford.
While at Oxford, the journalist fellows work on a project that addresses an issue that’s important for their newsrooms or for the news industry as a whole. The programme selects 30 Journalist Fellows from around the world each year.
Eligibility
- To be considered, applicants must have a minimum of five years’ journalistic experience, or in rare cases demonstrate the equivalent level of expertise.
- Freelancing is not a barrier to application, but the programme does not accept applications from those working in public affairs, public relations or corporate communications.
- Journalist Fellowships are open to journalists from all over the world, including Europe, Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, North America, and Latin America.
- Applicants must plan to return to journalism after completing their fellowship.
- English language proficiency is not tested, but the applicants should be able to understand and join in discussions in English.
What the fellowship offers
- Majority of the accepted fellows are fully-funded and also receive a stipend to cover living and travel costs.
- Additionally, they are be embedded in a cutting-edge institution that shapes key media debates.
- They will be part of an institution with a global outlook. Fellows come from all over the world and share ideas and experiences of working in different countries and different mediums.
- They will be just one hour from London by train, providing convenient access to some of the world’s leading news publishers like The Guardian, the Financial Times and the BBC.
How to apply
Applicants must submit their applications through this page. They will need:
- A one-page project statement and a 150-word summary of their proposed project idea.
- A one-page motivation statement. Why are they ready for a fellowship? Why do they want to do this project?
- A two-page CV briefly describing their career and your education history.
- Two letters of reference, each should be just one page.
The last date to submit applications is Friday 13 February 2026 23:59 (UK time).
