The National Press Foundation (NPF), with support from Fondation Ipsen, is offering a week of free online journalism training on rare disease research and innovation. The fellowship will equip professional journalists with the knowledge and resources to cover groundbreaking developments in detection, treatment, and customized therapies, as well as the challenges that remain in the field.
In addition, up to 20 fellows will receive reporting grants of $2,000 each to support travel expenses and time for completing a rare disease reporting project.

Rare disease research and innovation, including childhood disease therapies, AI-driven drug development, venture capital, and patient advocacy
Support: On-the-record briefings, Q&A with top experts, and guidance from veteran journalists
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to professional journalists worldwide, working in any medium (print, broadcast, online, social media).
- Must have fluency in English (training will be conducted in English).
- Attendance at all sessions is mandatory.
- Employed journalists must provide a letter of support from their editor confirming time off during fellowship hours.
- Freelance journalists must provide a letter from an editor indicating interest in publishing their work.
