The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) is hiring a Project Officer – Communication & Advocacy to lead and implement communication strategies that strengthen the visibility of the Institute, enhance the use of UIS data, and promote advocacy efforts aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Based in Montreal, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in establishing UIS as the trusted source of statistical data across global education, science, culture, and information domains.

 Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement innovative communication strategies to increase the impact and visibility of UIS.
  • Coordinate public-facing projects and media materials in collaboration with UN organizations, donors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Draft and edit press releases, op-eds, articles, and core communication materials for diverse audiences.
  • Lead the production and dissemination of multilingual materials across platforms.
  • Manage major UIS report launches and global events, ensuring strategic direction and coordination with consultants.
  • Supervise communication team staff and consultants.
  • Prepare advocacy proposals and communication reports aligned with UIS objectives.
  • Drive engagement on social media and digital platforms to amplify UIS outreach.
 Required Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Communication, Journalism, or Public Relations.
  • A first-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in communications, media, and advocacy.
  • Proven track record in brand development, storytelling, and digital media engagement.
  • Experience in multilingual publishing, social media strategy, and website management.
  • Proficiency in designing interactive data products and statistical storytelling.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and visual design skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and French.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and advocacy capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of media, social platforms, and visual content standards.
  • Ability to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
