MDIF is hiring a Program Director for South Asia to lead its regional strategy in supporting and investing in independent media. This senior-level, full-time role involves shaping programmatic approaches, developing an investable pipeline, and strengthening client engagement. The ideal candidate is a seasoned media leader with strategic vision, regional expertise, and strong relationship-building skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead and adapt MDIF’s regional strategy to local media, political, and economic contexts.
- Manage the investment pipeline in collaboration with the Investment Committee and investment team.
- Engage directly with clients, oversee non-financial aspects of investments, and offer strategic media guidance.
- Launch and lead regional programs and fundraising initiatives.
- Represent MDIF in regional partnerships and forums, while collaborating closely with other teams globally.
- Develop materials for internal assessments and contribute to country-specific analyses.
- Coordinate technical assistance and serve as a board representative for investees when needed.
Eligibility Criteria
- Degree in media, journalism, business, management, or a related field. Graduate qualifications preferred.
- Proven experience managing news organizations or working in journalism.
- Experience in product management, civil society, media support, or impact investment is an asset.
- Familiarity with the South Asian media landscape across multiple countries.
- Prior experience with stakeholders and funders in the region is advantageous.
- Strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder engagement.
- Fluent in English; knowledge of South Asian languages is a plus.
- Ability to travel regionally and occasionally globally.
- Passion for press freedom and democratic values.
