The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma is offering the 2025 Ochberg Fellowship, a unique seminar program for senior and mid-career journalists to deepen their understanding of emotional trauma and psychological injury, and improve reporting on violence, conflict, and tragedy.
About the Ochberg Fellowship
The Ochberg Fellowship will award selected journalists the opportunity to attend an intensive, weeklong program at Columbia University in New York City, from July 29 – August 3, 2025. The program includes seminars led by interdisciplinary experts in trauma and mental health, as well as discussions on ethics, craft, and journalistic practice. Fellows will also engage with peers for intellectual exchange and professional learning.
Fellowship Requirements
- Applicants must have at least five years of professional journalism experience.
- The fellowship is open to print, broadcast, and digital reporters, photographers, editors, and producers.
- Applicants should have a strong track record of covering trauma, violence, conflict, or tragedy and its impact on individuals, families, or communities.
- Both staff journalists and freelancers are eligible to apply.
- Fluency in English is required, as all fellowship seminars are conducted in English.
- Applicants must demonstrate journalistic excellence and leadership in their careers.
