CAMECO is seeking a Media Expert for Decolonization & Conflict Resolution to support international collaboration and research on conflict, reconciliation, and media’s role in addressing historical injustices. This role is integral to strengthening media projects that contribute to peacebuilding and sustainable communication in post-conflict societies.
The Media Expert for Decolonization & Conflict Resolution will be based at CAMECO in Aachen, Germany, working in collaboration with AGIAMONDO. This position focuses on developing research and communication strategies related to colonial legacies, reconciliation, and conflict transformation, particularly in the African Great Lakes region.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop a digital archive that compiles research literature and learning materials.
- Identify and engage relevant stakeholders to build a network for journalism, communication, and DwP.
- Advise and coordinate the production of media content both in Germany and the Great Lakes region.
- Contribute to the development of a handbook on journalism, communication, and DwP, utilizing it for training sessions and workshops with journalists.
- Conduct research and networking trips to the Great Lakes region and relevant locations in Europe.
Required Qualifications
- Professional experience in and a strong personal connection to the African Great Lakes region (Rwanda, Burundi, or the Democratic Republic of Congo).
- A university degree in communication and media studies, peace and conflict studies, African history, political science, development studies, or a related field.
- Expertise in research methodologies and decolonial approaches.
- Practical experience in digital media production and content creation.
- In-depth knowledge of African history, particularly related to the Great Lakes region.
- Proven expertise in peacebuilding and dealing with a violent past.
- Fluency in French and English; knowledge of German and additional regional languages (Kinyarwanda, Lingala, Kirundi, Kiswahili) is an advantage.
