The JX Fund is seeking an experienced and visionary Managing Director to lead its mission of supporting exiled media from countries where independent journalism is no longer possible. This is a strategic leadership role at a young but growing organization working to uphold press freedom, fight disinformation, and ensure a diversity of voices in the global media landscape.

The Managing Director will oversee the financial, programmatic, and operational management of the JX Fund and work in close collaboration with national and international stakeholders, donors, and partners. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in media development or journalism, proven experience in nonprofit leadership, and fluency in both English and German.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage financial and operational activities and lead HR processes.
  • Guide structural and team development.
  • Co-lead the organization with a commercial director.
  • Align strategic direction with JX Fund’s mission.
  • Design and implement programs based on ongoing needs assessments.
  • Respond swiftly to crises, political shifts, and urgent legal changes.
  • Represent JX Fund in conferences, interviews, and public communication.
  • Cultivate and expand international partnerships.
  • Lead global fundraising efforts (with a focus on Europe and the U.S.).
  • Maintain donor relationships and oversee financial and narrative reporting.
  • Initiate research and advocacy work on journalism in exile.
  • Collaborate with civil society and political stakeholders.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Fluency in English and German (spoken and written).
  •  Over 10 years of management experience, preferably in a nonprofit context.
  • Background in media development and/or journalism.
  •  Familiarity with German and European public funding requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in international fundraising.
  •  Strong intercultural leadership and crisis response capacity.
