The Local Journalism Fellowship 2025  is an award-winning online publication devoted to exploring urban health and social issues in Toronto. With an emphasis on magazine-style journalism and reporting from local communities. We publish in-depth features, essays, data journalism, and commentary, alongside multimedia and other experimental forms of storytelling.

About the Local Journalism Fellowship

The Local Journalism Fellowship  2025 is a paid 13-week opportunity for emerging and aspiring journalists to gain training, mentorship. The fellowship aims to provide opportunities for those from underrepresented communities in Canadian media to produce stories on subjects and from perspectives often overlooked.

Fellowship Requirements
  • Applicants should have a passion for journalism, whether or not they have formal journalism education or training.
  • Fellows will create a polished piece of journalism for publication, which can include reported features, first-person essays, data journalism, photo essays, or other forms.
  • The fellowship is part-time (approximately three days per week) and flexible, with the opportunity to organize personal schedules as long as deadlines are met.
  • Weekly editorial meetings are in-person at 10 Adelaide Street East, Toronto, with virtual options available on a case-by-case basis.
  • Fellows will be paid $6,000 for the duration of the fellowship.
  • Up to three fellows will be chosen.
