The BBC is looking for a Lead Presenter to co-anchor Newsday, one of the world’s leading global breakfast news radio programmes, on the BBC World Service. This role is based in Nairobi and will work closely with co-presenters in London and Singapore, as part of a dynamic, international production and presentation team.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:
- Strong command of spoken and written English.
- Deep understanding of African audiences and the ability to reflect their perspective in global reporting.
- Demonstrable experience in live radio broadcasting and breaking news coverage.
- Ability to relocate to or currently be based in Nairobi; highly qualified candidates outside Kenya are encouraged to apply (BBC relocation package available).
- Excellent knowledge of global current affairs, especially from an African perspective.
- Proven on-air presence, with experience conducting high-stakes interviews and unscripted presentations.
- Experience working collaboratively in diverse, international teams.
Responsibilities
- Present Newsday live on-air in a style aligned with the programme’s engaging and agenda-setting tone.
- Make real-time editorial decisions and confidently manage breaking news during broadcasts.
- Build strong working relationships with co-presenters in London and Singapore.
- Conduct live interviews, including spontaneous ones, holding guests accountable as needed.
- Contribute to programme innovation, including ideas for digital engagement and on-location broadcasts.
- Support team cohesion by giving and receiving feedback constructively.
- Represent Newsday as an ambassador internally and externally.
- Adhere to BBC editorial guidelines, legal frameworks, and uphold its core values.
