ARIJ is seeking an experienced Lead Academic Expert to oversee and strengthen its partnerships with universities and academic institutions across the Arab region. The selected candidate will play a key role in integrating ARIJ’s Investigative Journalism and Fact-Checking curricula into university programs, coordinating faculty capacity-building initiatives, supporting academic research and events, and monitoring overall impact.
This role bridges ARIJ’s training work and academia, ensuring that ARIJ’s resources, curricula, and expertise are effectively embedded within university environments across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a peer network of academic professionals for knowledge exchange and best practice sharing. Design and implement Training-of-Trainers (ToT) programs to support faculty in curriculum delivery and enhancement.
- Identify, negotiate, and formalize new partnerships with universities and journalism institutions. Sustain strong relationships with existing partners and maintain a comprehensive engagement database. Facilitate connections between universities and industry professionals for internships and collaborative projects.
- Design and deliver academic activities such as guest lectures, workshops, and student-focused events, including competitions and fellowships. Promote the integration of ARIJ’s online courses and materials into university teaching.
- Serve as the primary liaison with academic partners, managing communication and visibility. Represent ARIJ at academic and media-related events across the region.
- Define and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for partnership and training activities. Collect continuous feedback, prepare progress reports, and provide strategic input on trends in journalism education to inform new academic modules and programs.
Eligibility
- PhD in Mass Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in university-level education.
- Proven knowledge of ARIJ curricula, investigative journalism, and fact-checking practices.
- Deep understanding of academic systems and media education in the Arab region.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Strong research, organizational, and project management abilities.
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a multicultural environment.
- Fluency in Arabic, English, and French.
