Internews is seeking to hire a Finance Associate who will support the Central America and Mexico (CAMEX) and South America teams by providing financial and administrative support across the regional project portfolio.
As needed, the Finance Associate will support the development of new business opportunities. The Finance Associate will report to the Americas Business Operations Manager and will work in close collaboration with both the Central America Finance and Subgrants Officer and the South America Financial and Subgrants Officer, as well as members of the Americas Program Management Unit (PMU) and relevant HQ departments as required.
Logistics
This is a fully remote role; candidates based in Colombia, Costa Rica, and Guatemala will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Finance and Subgrants staff, the Americas Business Operations Manager and program staff to ensure that documentation complies with funder requirements and Internews’ policies and procedures.
- Prepare invoices, wire transfer requests, expense reimbursements, and payment requests, and support completion of monthly financial reconciliations.
- Support maintenance of tracking systems for grant-related administration, such as travel plans, personal service contracts, outside service contracts, and data collection systems.
- Facilitate partner disbursements with support from program staff and finance department.
- Assist Finance and Subgrants staff and the Americas Business Manager in preparing and managing financial and business operations.
- Assist the Finance and Subgrants Officer and program staff in coordinating with subgrant partners to draft their activity budgets, budget monitoring, and progress reports.
- Support the program team and Americas Business Manager on issues related to project budgets and new project proposal budgets for the Central America and Mexico portfolio.
- Assist the Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party, and Subgrants and Finance Officer on aspects related to local legal registration, including financial, human resources, and operational requirements.
- Analyze and provide recommendations to improve business operations and efficiency.
- Provide administrative support to the Americas team as requested.
- Participate in regular pause and reflection sessions with colleagues and partners to inform project implementation and learnings.

Required qualifications
- University degree or equivalent lived/professional experience.
- Spanish and English fluency.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills; ability to present in non-technical language to diverse audiences, including colleagues, journalists, consultants, and donors.
- Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to effectively manage a dynamic workload and
- shifting priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong research and writing skills; editorial and/or copyediting skills preferred.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
Preferred qualifications
Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.
- Familiarity with Central American media landscape and information ecosystem.
- Prior relevant experience, preferably working with an international NGO, think tank, or within the development, media, or human rights sectors.
- Accounting or budget monitoring experience, familiarity with ERP accounting software.
- Experience preparing expense reports and budgets.
- Online editorial or information curation experience.
